You already know the postcard Mediterranean: the same ten islands, the same infinity pool, the same sunset from the same three viewpoints. Mediterra is for what’s underneath that, the version of these places that’s still real once the crowds leave: long lunches, salt on the skin, objects that carry history, conversations that stretch into the night.
I’m Aida, the editor behind Mediterra. I trained for years as an interior designer, learning to filter a room until only the right things were left in it. I use that same eye now on places instead of interiors, and I’ve lived long enough across France, Spain, Greece, and Italy to know the difference between somewhere genuinely lived in and somewhere just performing for a camera.
Every place featured here passes the same standard: real character, still run by people who care about it, somewhere locals go too, nothing that’s rewritten itself to please a camera. Most places fail at least one of those. What’s here are the ones that pass.
Mediterra began in Athens, a city that still carries a specific energy for me: ancient beside noisy, beautiful beside imperfect, never predictable. That contradiction is basically the whole philosophy behind everything I write.
